Yesterday year 5 & 6 went on a trip to styal mill we saw lots of machinery that was used in the past and how they used it.We also looked around the  mill & how cotton was made.

STYAL MILL

On our trip to Styal Mill we went in the Apprentices house and we had to do the alphabet. Then we went upstairs to see the beds. After we looked at the medicines and the kitchen.
Yesterday we went to styal mill we were learning about the Victorians, First of all we went down to the school showroom and had a Victorian school lesson. We got taught the alphabet up to E and we,were not allowed to look him in the eye and we had to call him sir,we sat at tables with benches and had to cross our arms and look down at the table.After this louis got told to stand in the corner of the classroom hold some kind of  weights in midair.and stay there. the man  also had the Kane  in his right hand and every time we recited the letters A,B,C,D,E he banged the kane down on the dirty brown table.

Yesterday Y5 and 6 went to styal mill. Styal mill is an cottan factory and is very educasional. there is man made  cottan and natral cottan.Is was built in the victorian times.The victorian times were really hard times people had lims cut off in the factory such as fingers hands and arms.   there schools were strict but porovideing.

Year 5 worked as Victorian scientists today on a mission for Joseph Swan, the inventor of the first electric light bulb in Britain!
We experimented with the equipment to make an electric lighting system for Styal Mill. Some of us discovered how to make our bulbs brighter whilst others could connect a circuit with more than one bulb in it!

This week we have been learning about Joseph Swan ,who created a public light bulb in 1879.We also have been learnig about dibates in english.also last week on friday Mr Lloyd -Jones came in to talk to us about the saalvation army.

Pakistan Floods.

This week we have been doing debates and discussions and we have done to either donate to them or spend it on yourself. So we played a game called consious alley where people stand on each side and somebody walks down the middle of them and everybody says reasns for and against donating.

On Friday 8th October years 5 and 6 were visited by Mr Lloyd-Jones. He came in to school to talk about the Salvation Army. We learnt a great deal about how and why it began and what the people of the Salvation Army do now. Thanks ever so much Mr Lloyd-Jones!

today we have learnded about the salvasion army the flag means red is for blood blue is for fire yellow is for spirit

SALVATION ARMY

William Booth started the Salvation Army in 1865 but it was called the Cristian Mission till 1978.

The salvation army flag has 3 colors which is:   

  • RED = BLOOD
  • YELLOW/GOLD = SPIRIT
  • BLUE = FIRE     
The salvation army helps homeless people and families.The have been helping people since 1865-2010.

Today we learnt about the salvasion army.We were told the coulers of there flag they are red blue yellow.


RED: RED stands for blood.
BLUE: BLUE Stands for spirit.
YELLOW:  Yellow stands for fire.

What I learnt about the Salvation Army today, by Oliver

They  helpt   the   piypol   theat    ar   ingad. (Oliver wrote this sentence on his own and remembered the full stop and capital letter)
They had blue, red and gold for their flag. Red was for blood, blue was for God and yellow for spirit. The Salvation army help homeless people by giving them food, work and beds. They treat them nicely when they have no money, no food and no roof over their heads.
People from the Salvation Army wear a tie, a white shirt, black trousers, shiny shoes, a hat and a jacket. At Christmas and Easter they sing songs and play in a brass band.

what we have learnt this week

this week i have learnt that in the victorian times poor people had to share a toilet with strangers.Also that there was somebody called lord shaftsbury and he helped orphan children and poor children in their lives.

we have also learnt how to use fractions in maths. we have been on educaition city and have been on fraction games.

This week in year five we have been learning about the victorians and how they lived and ate.In maths we have been learning about fractions and it was at time hard at other easy.we have just started to learn about spanish and how we say our familys ,like:
